The Deputy District Grand Prefect Visits Paddock Wood Council 88
On the 24th August the Deputy District Grand Prefect W. Bro. Brian Alan Ward was warmly welcomed by the Worshipful Master and the brethren of the Paddock Wood Council when he made his first ever official visit to a council. The Deputy was accompanied by six active district officers who acted as his escort. They were W. Bro’s Derek Wilkins, David Green, Mark Wolcott, Tony Maslin, Paddy Langdown and Roy Skelton all under the ever-watchful eye of the Deputy District Grand Director of Ceremonies W. Bro David Barden.
During the meeting W. Bro Brian was treated to two first-class ceremonies. The first ceremony performed was to introduce Bro Peter Hayler into the degree of St Lawrence the Martyr and was undertaken by W. Bro Ron Jakes who was standing in for the Worshipful Master Pieter Swinge who was unavoidably absent. On completion of the ceremony Bro Peter was welcomed into the order by the Deputy and presented with an Allied Masonic tie as a memento of the evening. Bro. Peter was also presented with an Allied Masonic Pen by the Deputy on behalf of the District Grand Prefect.
Bro.’s Peter Hayler and David Berry were then asked to retire from the temple for a short while to allow R. W. Bro Kessick Jones to take the chair and open the council in the degree of the Knights of Constantinople. He then undertook the ceremony of Knights of Constantinople for Bro.’s Peter and David ably assisted by a host of noisy artisans. Upon completion of the ceremony both candidates were congratulated by the Deputy before the council was closed by R. W Bro Jones in the degree of Knights of Constantinople.

Having resumed in the degree of St lawrence the Martyr the rest of the council business was attended to. Those Brethren in attendance who had received Grand ranks were congratulated by the Deputy Grand Master, R. W. Bro Clive Manuel. A report by W. Bro Bran Ward was given on the health of Roger Odd before he took the opportunity to thank the brethren for their warm and friendly welcome to the council.

When the lodge had been closed the brethren dined together at a very enjoyable festive board.
