On Wednesday 15th March 2023 the District Grand Prefect R.W. Bro Brian Alan Ward and the District Grand Secretary W. Bro Derek Wilkins headed north to The District of East Anglia to attend a consecration of a new Allied Degree Council.

On arrival at the Masonic centre in Bury St Edmonds both Brian and Derek were warmly welcomed by members of the council and directed towards coffee and bacon butties. (What a wonderful start to the day and a most welcome treat after a two hour drive north-ish!) Whist enjoying bacon butties and a hot drink both Brian and Derek were able to catch up with friends from other districts before taking their seats in what was a packed temple.

After the council had been opened in due form, an escort comprising of active Grand officers was then formed and the Grand Master M. W. Bro. Thomas Firth Jackson was escorted into the temple where he was warmly welcomed and saluted.

Those brethren assembled then witnessed the Grand Master consecrate the new Council “The Dedham Vale Council 284” in a most excellent manner. A special mention must also go to the Grand Chaplin V.W. Bro. The Revd. Justin Parker who gave a wonderful oration during the ceremony. On completion of the ceremony of consecration the Primus Master of the new council W. Bro Christopher Sampson invested his officers for the year. The District Grand Prefect for East Anglia R. W. Bro. Geoffrey Keer (IPM for the Dedham Vale Council 284) then conferred honorary membership of the new council to all the visiting District Grand Prefects in attendance. What a lovely and unexpected surprise.

On completion of all the business of the day the council was closed in due form and the brethren retired to the banqueting suite to enjoy each other’s company and a superb festive board. The brethren dined upon fish goujons with tartare sauce to start, followed by a proper Steak and Ale pie with fresh seasonal vegetables followed by fruit crumble and for those still hungry a selection of cheese was available. Teas, coffee, and mints followed (Whilst writing this article I have thankfully remembered to go and take the mint out of my top pocket which was a surprise {and lavish gift} for my lovey wife).

Having said all their goodbyes Brian and Derek headed home to sunny Kent and reflected upon what a wonderful day they had enjoyed.

Congratulations to all those from the East Anglia District who helped to organise such a fabulous day.
