District Grand Council of Kent
News:
Hertfordshire & Bedfordshire Annual District Council Meeting
On a dark Saturday morning, on the First of April, just before 6.00am the District Grand Secretary, W. Bro. Derek Wilkins, left home to attend the District of Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire Annual District meeting in Letchworth Garden City. His taxi duties were to pick up the District Grand Prefect, RW Bro Brian Ward, and then the Deputy District Grand Prefect, W Bro Geoff Whale.
The journey entailed manoeuvring the Dartford crossing and fortunately, the threatened train strike did not adversely affect the volume of traffic and resulted in no delays on the way to Letchworth. In fact, the Kent contingent arrived before the bacon butties were ready – giving more time to catch up with old friends!
It was not too long before the guests were called to order by the District Grand Director of Ceremonies to take their seats, in what was a packed temple. The District Grand Prefect for Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, RW Bro Geoffrey Cheshire, was then escorted into the Council by his District Officers before opening the meeting. Having attended to the minutes and other District matters he then proceeded to welcome the 13 visiting District Grand Prefects and other guests, which he did amid much good-natured banter and laughter.

Having completed other administration matters of the District, the District Grand Prefect then reinvested his Deputy, VW Bro Glen Sapsford, for the ensuing year. The District Grand Prefect then proceeded to invest and appoint his Officers for the ensuing year before addressing the brethren in the record time of seven minutes, approximately?

The District Grand Council was then closed and the brethren retired to the bar for refreshments before being called to the Festive Board to enjoy an excellent meal, consisting of a Caesar Salad followed by a “proper Steak and Ale Pie” (a proper pie has to have a pastry top, bottom and sides), and concluded with a very impressive cheese board. All of which was accompanied by an ample supply of wine.
The contingent from Kent
Farewells being said, the threesome from Kent headed home, with the Deputy District Grand Prefect in the back of the car - sound asleep, following his good lunch and several glasses of wine!
