The District Grand Prefect Visits Invicta Council 54
On the 12th June 2023 the District Grand Prefect R. W. Bro. Brian Ward made his first official visit to the Invicta Council 54 accompanied by the District Grand Director of Ceremonies W. Bro Jody Townsend and the District Grand Secretary W.Bro. Derek Wilkins.
When council had been opened in due form by the WM W. Bro Mark Kirby the District Grand DC was admitted and informed the council that the DGP was outside to door of the lodge and that he demanded admission. An escort was duly formed and the DGP was escorted into the lodge room where he received warm and enthusiastic Allied salutations by the brethren. The DPG responded by thanking the Worshipful Master and the brethren of the Invicta Council for their warm and friendly Allied salutations.

During the evening the DGP was treated to two well delivered ceremonies for their new member Bro Brian Tyler. Brian was introduced, received and admitted into the degree of St Lawrence the Martyr which was undertaken by the Worshipful Master W. Bro Mark Kirkby who also delivered the lecture. On completion of the ceremony Bro Brian was welcomed into the order by the DPG and presented with an Allied Pen (some traditions are set in stone) and a lapel pin depicting a grid iron as a memento of the evening.

Bro Brian then retired from the temple for a short while so that the temple could be prepared for the ceremony of degree of the Knights of Constantinople. The chair was then occupied by the Council Secretary W.Bro. Jason Cameron Potter. Jason ever willing to immerse himself in the part wore a very elaborate crown to enhance the gravitas of the role he was about to undertake. (Not sure, but I do believe the crown was probably obtained from Burger King). Jason then opened the lodge before Brian re-entered the lodge room to receive the ceremony of the Knights of Constantinople which was delivered as only Jason can deliver a ceremony ably assisted by a host of very noisy artisans.

Having resumed in the degree of St Lawrence the Martyr the rest of the council business was attended to. This included a notice of motion to donate £500 from their recently reactivated Relief Chest to the District for presentation to the East and West Kent Craft Festivals at the next district meeting in February 2024. The DGP thanked the brethren of the Invicta council for this wonderfully generous donation and assured them that their wishes would be adhered to. In addition to this very generous donation the Council also agreed to sponsor and name a race for £50 and buy six horses at a cost of £5 each for a social event being held on the 2nd September 2023. The council treasurer will transfer a total of £80 to the District Grand Treasurer.
During the risings the DPG took the opportunity encourage the brethren to visit other councils in the district and to say how much he had enjoyed his visit and to thank all the brethren for their warm and friendly welcome.
The DPG was then escorted from the council before the council was closed in due form and afterwards the brethren dined together at a very enjoyable festive board.
