Paddock Wood Council No 88 welcomes the District Grand Prefect
On Wednesday 23 August 2023, the Paddock Wood Council No 88 was delighted to welcome the District Grand Prefect for Kent (D.G.P.), R.W. Bro. Brian Ward, to their regular meeting at Wrotham. The D.G.P. was attended by the District Grand Director of Ceremonies, W. Bro. Jody Townsend.
The Council was opened in due form by Worshipful Master, W. Bro Bob Gaywood, ably assisted by the brethren of the Paddock Wood Council. The District Grand Director of Ceremonies was then admitted and informed the Council that the D.G.P. was outside the door of the Council and he demanded admission. An escort was duly formed and the D.G.P. was escorted into the Council room where he received rapturous Allied salutations by the brethren. The D.G.P. responded by thanking the brethren for their warm and friendly Allied salutations. The Worshipful Master then offered the Gavel to the D.G.P. which was declined with grateful thanks.

Then followed a very informative and well-researched lecture given by W. Bro. Roland Wade on the “Sacking” of the Masonic Temple in Jersey. Upon competition of the lecture, W. Bro. Roland Wade received enthusiastic applause from the brethren. The brethren were then updated on the progress of a research initiative into the history of the Paddock Wood Council undertaken by Bro. Peter Hayler. He was thanked by the brethren of the Council for his efforts, and they looked forward to further updates in the future. The D.G.P. also thanked Bro. Peter for his hard work and looked forward to seeing the completed article on the Allied Website.

The Council was then closed in due form before the Worshipful Master, W. Bro Bob Gaywood, accompanied his officers and the D.G.P. retired from the Council room to the bar.
The brethren then dined together at the Festive Board. In replying to his toast, the D.G.P. urged the brethren to continue to try and visit other Councils as much as possible. This would be a sure way to enjoy the camaraderie which was so evident at all Allied meetings.
