On Thursday the 30th November members of the Allied Exec (W. Bro’s Geoff Whale, Derek Wilkins, David Barden and Jody Townsend) gathered at the District Grand Prefects home in sunny Folkestone at 10:30am to review the objectives previously set for 2023 and to finalise plans for 2024. These included plans for the district meeting which will be held on Saturday 17th February 2024 and to plan a social event for the summer of 2024.

Following a very productive meeting in the morning members of the exec then welcomed the active district officers when they arrived for lunch. First to arrive at 11:30am were W. Bro’s Mark Woolcott and Tony Maslin. This was much earlier that the expected time of 12:30pm but Mark explained that he had built in lots of time to the journey just in case they encountered traffic problems on the way. The early arrival allowed them to sit in front of the log fire imbibing and munching nibbles that Toni (the DGP’s wife) had laid out. By 12:30pm the rest of the active officers, W. Bro’s Peter Dowling, Howard Pashley, Alan Coxon, Paul Hutchinson, had arrived either by car or train and were able to enjoy a few drinks before lunch was served. Last minute apologies were received from W. Bro’s Phil Clare, Terry Dodd, Kevin Murphy, Mike Plant and Ron Jakes.

At approximately 1:30pm lunch was served by Toni. The first course consisted of homemade individual chorizo tarts (a great favourite of the DGP) served on a bed of rocket drizzled with a balsamic glaze. This was followed by roast loin of pork with a spicy herb rub accompanied by a vast selection of seasonal vegetables. A selection of homemade desserts followed, including tiramisu, apple pie with custard or cream or pineapple crumble with cream or custard. A selection of cheeses with homemade pickle then followed accompanied by port and brandy.

During lunch the District Grand Prefect toasted members of the exec and the active officers and thanked them all for their support during the year. This was closely followed by a toast to Toni, the DGP’s wife, which was given by the Deputy District Grand Prefect W. Bro Geoff Whale on behalf all those attending. He thanked her for the wonderful food she had prepared and for making everyone so welcome.
