On Saturday the 16th March the District Grand Prefect R. W. Bro Brian Ward set forth from his home in Folkestone at 07:30am to attend the Annual District meeting for the District of Sussex in Peacehaven.

On this occasion he was driven by his wife Toni who is acting as District chauffeur while he is recovering from recent eye surgery. The route selected took nearly two and half hours along the scenic highways and byways of Kent and Sussex without once getting lost. A triumph in navigation. Having discharged Brian at the Masonic Hall in Peacehaven Toni headed off for some retail therapy in Brighton promising to be back before 3:00pm.

Bro Geoff Whale and the Past Deputy Grand Master R. W. Bro Clive Manuel, the Past District Grand Prefect R. W. Bro.Peter Brockbank and W. Bro. Tony Maslin. After a refreshing cuppa and lots of pleasant conversation with old friends the D.C. for Sussex bade the brethren to make their way the temple so that the meeting could start on time. Following salutations including one to the Past Deputy Grand Master R. W. Bro. Clive Manuel heartly and humorous welcomes were afforded to all the visiting D.G.P.’s, Heads of orders and other distinguished guests. These humorous exchanges set the tone for what proved to be a wonderful meeting which was enjoyed by all.

All too soon the meeting was closed in due form and the brethren retired to the bar for refreshments before enjoying a very tasty two course festive board together. Following the customary toasts a hilarious toast was delivered by the Deputy District Grand Prefect W. Bro Ian Taylor for Sussex to the District Grand Prefect which had everyone in stitches.

Following a very enjoyable festive board the vast majority of brethren headed for home with the exception of a contingent from Kent who retired to the bar under the direction and supervision of the Past District Grand Prefect R. W. Bro. Peter Brockbank. At 3:00pm Toni returned from her shopping expedition in Brighton to chauffeur Brian home. The rest of the Kent contingent seemed happy to remain at the bar for the duration.
