On Saturday 13th July the Grand Master’s Centennial Council 100 held their Installation meeting at Mark Masons Hall at St James Street in London. The chair of this Council is always held by the Most Worshipful Grand Master, M. W. Bro. Thomas Firth Jackson but at the installation meeting a Deputy Master is installed to preside over the Council.

Installation meetings are always well attended and this year was no exception with brethren attending from many Districts from across the length and breadth of the country including five intrepid brethren from the District of Kent, R. W. Bros. Ward, Brockbank and Viggers and W. Bros. Wilkins and Smith.

The Deputy Master of the Council W. Bro. Bill Divall presided over the opening and the regular business of the Council before vacating the chair in favour of W. Bro. Christiopher Sampsom who Introduced, Received and Admitted Bros. Caughie, Bassett and Stevens as brothers of St Lawrence the Martyr into the Council. A faultless lecture was then delivered by W. Bro. Philip Purves.

The Deputy Master W. Bro. Bill Divall then resumed the chair and installed Bro. Oliver Coddington as the new Deputy Master of the Council in an exemplary fashion. The Deputy Master, W. Bro. Oliver then installed the officers for the year on behalf on the Grand Master.

Upon completion of the remaining business the Council was closed in due form before the brethren retired to the bar for a Champaigne reception given by W. Bro. Coddington. The brethren then dined together at the festive board but afterwards there was a great reluctance by many to leave for home as selected beers from the bar were being sold at half price to empty the barrels for the recess.
