On Saturday 15th March four members from the District of Kent converged on Peacehaven from different directions to attend the Annual District Meeting for the District of Sussex presided over by their District Grand Prefect R. W. Bro. Gene Earland. Attendees from Kent were R. W. Bros Brian Ward, D.G.P., Peter Brockbank, P.D.G.P. and W. Bros. Geoff Whale Dep. D.G.P. and Tony Maslin.

Having enjoyed the hospitality of bacon/sausage butties, teas and coffee and lively conversation the brethren were encouraged to make their way into the temple. At 11:00am and following a number of processions into the temple the District Grand Prefect R.W. Bro. Gene Earland accompanied by his officers for the year entered the temple to rapturous applause.

The visiting District Grand Prefects, heads of orders and honoured guests were then warmly welcomed by the D.G.P, which as expected involved a great deal of banter and good humour. Following this lively start the business of the council was then attended to in a most efficient manner.

The D.G.P. was delighted to appoint a new Deputy District Grand Prefect for the district and at the appropriate time W. Bro. Ivor Bennett was invested as the new Deputy. Ivor will take over from W. Bro. Ian Taylor who had served the district in that capacity since 2023. The D.G.P then addressed the brethren which was warmly received by the brethren.

When the business of the council had been completed and the District Council closed in due form the brethren gathered for photographs before heading to the bar for refreshments and conversation. The brethren then enjoyed a splendid lunch together where laughter and lively conversation was the order of the day. Following the very humorous toast to the D.G.P. by his newly appointed Deputy the brethren said their good byes and departed for home.
