On Monday 24th March the District Grand Prefect, R. W. Bro. Brian Ward accompanied by the District Grand Director of Ceremonies W. Bro. Jody Townsend attended the Installation meeting for the White Cliffs of Dover Council.

Sadly because of holiday, business and other masonic duties many of the regular attendees of the council had to tender their apologies for this meeting. None the less a fine example of quality versus quantity prevailed and a most enjoyable meeting was had by all of those who attended.

The Council was opened in due form by the Worshipful Master of the Council W. Bro. Alan Wilson-Storey who ably assisted by his officers. Salutations to the D.G.P. were given and he responded by thanking the brethren for their warm welcome. The Master Elect, Bro. Pierre Ambrody was then installed into the Chair in a most sincere manner by the Installing Master W. Bro. Alan Wilson Storey.

When the council had been opened in the degree of St Lawrence the Martyr by the Worshipful Master, W.Bro. Fred Brown, the D.G.P. entered the lodge room to enthusiastic applause and the customary Allied salutations by the brethren.

When the initial business of the lodge had been completed, the D.G.P. was asked to present a Grand Council Certificate to Bro. Reg Pritchard which he duly did before congratulating Bro. Reg on this milestone in his Allied journey.

The meeting of St. Lawrence the Martyr was adjourned and the lodge room prepared for the degree of the Knights of Constantinople. W.Bro. Fred Brown opened the meeting and conferred the degree on Bro. Nick Baker in a superb manner and with aplomb. The lecture was given by W.Bro. Jake Jackson in a faultless manner. Congratulations on attaining this degree were given to Bro Nick by the D.G.P. and the Past Deputy Grand Master R.W.Bro. Clive Manuel. The Worshipful Master then resumed working in the degree of St Lawrence the Martyr.

All those below the rank of an installed Master were then invited to retire from the Lodge room before the W.Bro. Fred Brown proceeded to install his successor W.Bro. Derek Wilkins as the new Master of the Council, which he did in an excellent manner. The brethren were then readmitted and saluted the newly installed master accordingly.

W.Bro. Derek then proceeded to invest and appoint all of his officers for the year with good humour and great sincerity. It is also delightful to note that the offices of Senior and Junior Wardens and Deacons and Inner Guard are all filled by brethren rather than past masters.

Following the investiture of the officers for the year the remaining business of the council was concluded. During the risings the D.G.P. thanked the brethren of the Council for their warm welcome and asked if they would like sponsor the social event taking pace of the 2nd August in Folkestone. To the D.G.P.’s great delight the council voted overwhelmingly to sponsor the event with £80. He duly thanked the brethren and said that details of the event would be sent out very soon and that he looked forward to welcoming them accompanied by their friends and family on the 2nd August.

When the council had been closed by the Worshipful Master and the appropriate photographs had been taken the brethren retired from the lodge room to the bar for refreshments before dining together at the festive board where much laughter and banter was in evidence.
