The Paddock Wood Council's Annual Sunday Lunch
On Sunday 5th October the Paddock Wood Council No. 88 held its Annual Sunday Lunch (Carvery) at the Wrotham Masonic Centre. The event proved to be a splendid occasion enjoyed by thirty attendees including the District Grand Prefect R.W.Bro. Brian Ward and his wife Toni as well as the Deputy District Grand Prefect W.Bro. Geoff Whale and his wife Joy.
It was extremely gratifying for the D.G.P. to see that this social event was so well supported by several brethren from other councils within the district. Clearly the D.G.P.’s desire for brethren from other councils to support each other is starting to pay dividends.
It was very clear to all those who attended, and very much appreciated by them, that a great deal of care had been taken to decorate the venue with an Autum/Halloween theme. This along with the warm welcome afforded to all the guests and the friendly atmosphere that prevailed only served to enhance this lovely occasion.
Prior to the meal being served at 1:30pm the brethren of the council along with their guests and visitors congregated in the bar to enjoy a few refreshments together where much laughter and conversation was in evidence.
A cheery wave to say hello from all assembled
When all of the guests had eventually been seated the first course was served, which offered a choice of melon or a smoked trout fillet served with a creamed horseradish sauce. Following this delicious starter the guests were invited to line up for the carvery which offered a selection of Beef, Pork or Turkey all accompanied with a huge selection of vegetables. The menu of the day concluded with a black forest gateau served with cream or a fruit salad or ice cream. A veritable feast. Teas or coffee followed.
During the meal raffle tickets were sold by designated brethren from the Council. In addition to the general raffle a separate raffle was held for a Star Prize donated by Peter Hayler which was a 15-year-old bottle of Glen Fiddich Single Malt Whisky. The proceeds of these raffles amounted to a grand total of £240. Made up of £180 from the general raffle and £60 from the Whisky raffle. It is truly gratifying to see just how generous people can be.
The afternoon concluded with the Worshipful Master of the Council, W.Bro. David James expressing his thanks to everyone for attending the event and making the afternoon so enjoyable. He also offered his grateful thanks and gratitude to Bro. Peter Hayler and W.Bro. Nigel Cash for all of their time and hard work they put in to organising the event.
The day concluded with many of those attending staying behind to chat and to be in each other’s company while enjoying a few more drinks in the bar together.
