On Saturday morning at 7:00am on the 9th May the District Grand Secretary W.Bro. Derek Wilkins arrived at the home for the District Grand Prefect to drive him to the Allied District meeting for Essex.

En-route they picked up the Deputy District Grand Prefect W.Bro. Geoff Whale and Bro. Peter Hayler and last of all W.Bro. Tony Maslin. Thankfully the M25 and the Dartford crossing proved to be trouble free and at just after 09:30am they arrived at the Masonic Hall in Braintree. A new venue for this district meeting. Having been welcomed by their hosts they headed to the bar for bacon butties, coffee and conversation.

The meeting was attended by eight District Grand Prefects and their parties from all parts of the country and by 11:00am all were seated in the temple to receive the District Grand Prefect for Essex R.W.Bro. Jeffrey Conway and his active officers for the year.

Having opened the District meeting he then paid tribute to those brethren who had been called to higher service. Having completed this solemn task the D.G.P. then commenced with the welcome of his distinguished guests which was full of banter, stories and lots of laughter.

The council business was then conducted with great precision before the D.G.P. invested and installed his new district officers for the year. Having completed this we were then treated to an address which was given in rhyme and contained lots of lovely humour. A real treat for those who were in attendance.

When the meeting was then closed the brethren assembled in the bar for refreshments and conversation, (after all of the customary photographs had been taken). At approximately 1:00pm the brethren enjoyed a superb festive board together where a great deal of laugher in evidence from around the dining hall. Following the customary toasts and replies the brethren of Kent set off for home and apart from the loud snores issuing from the Deputy in the back of the car the other occupants of the car enjoyed a care free journey home.
