Following the Shuttleworth Council 50 meeting held in Middleton on the evening of the 8th September and the dispatch of further Masonic business in the hotel bar afterwards the D.G.P. R.W. Bro Brian Ward, the D.G. Sec W. Bro Derek Wilkins and the A.D. G. Sec W. Bro Mark Woolcott for Kent awoke bright eyed and bushy tailed the next morning.

Following a hearty breakfast which included locally sourced Black Pudding they made their way to the magnificent Masonic Hall in Rochdale for the East Lancashire District Meeting. On arrival they were greeted warmly and pointed in the direction of teas and coffee and bacon butties. What a magnificent start to any day.

At 11am the District Grand Prefect for East Lancashire R. W. Bro, Mervyn Wilson accompanied by his officers for the year entered the magnificent temple and received a warm welcome from the guests, visitors and brethren who had previously assembled themselves there. The meeting was then opened in due form before all of the distinguished guests and visitors were warmly welcomed. The business of the day, which included reappointing the Deputy District Grand Prefect W. Bro. Graham Newton and appointing all of the new officers for the year was carried out in a very humorous and efficient way. Following this the DGP addressed the assembled brethren which upon conclusion was applauded loudly.

At just before 12 noon when all of the other business of the day had been attended to the District Grand Prefect R. W. Bro Mervyn Wilson closed the council in due form. The D.G.P. accompanied by the brethren retired to the bar for refreshments all of them eagerly awaiting a gourmet lunch. This consisted of locally sourced Black Pudding with mustard sauce followed by Rag Pudding served with Lancashire caviar and chunky deep fat fried chips and finally, as a sop to clogged arteries a dessert of fruit salad. Balanced nutrition is so very important.
